Major Donations

Anonymous Challenge Grant (2009)
A very generous donor issued a Challenge Grant for the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center Phase III Renovation Project in the amount of $200,000. Temple College Foundation must raise $400,000 by December 31, 2009 in order to receive the gift. The Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center is undergoing a total renovation at a cost of $1,500,000.

The Joe and Louise Cook Foundation (2008)
Once again, the Cook Foundation has stepped up to the plate and donated $25,000 toward the Phase III Renovation Project for the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. The newly renovated Concert Hall will be complete by September 2009 and provides new auditorium seating, expansion of the bathrooms and total renovation of the Lobby area.

Materials Transportation Company (2008)
The Materials Transportation Company supported the Challenge Grant in 2004 from the R. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation. They are again supporting a Challenge Grant for the renovation of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center.

King’s Daughters Hospital (2008)
King’s Daughters Hospital has pledged $25,000 for the renovation of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center Phase III to include new bathrooms, a renovated lobby area, and a new Concert Hall.

The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation (2007)
An additional $50,000 was granted for replacement of the seating for the Concert Hall in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. Renovations for that project are currently on-going and completion date for the new Concert Hall including the seating is slated for September 2009.

Wal-Mart Foundation (2007)
A gift of $10,000 was given to establish The Wal-Mart Standardized Patient Clinic as a component of the Temple College Clinical Simulation Center. The new Wal-Mart Standardized Patience Clinic continues the partnership with Scott & White Hospital and the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine to provide world-class training and educational opportunities for medical students, nursing students, and health sciences students.

Carlton Ross Hale Trust (2006)
As part of estate planning, a gift was received from Carlton Ross Hale for the general scholarship fund and for the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center.

Jack W. Jones Community Room (2006)
The Jack W. Jones Community Room was dedicated on June 21, 2006 to honor the memory of a man who earned the respect of all of those who came in contact with him, both in his private and his public life. Carol Jones, wife, and Jack W. Jones, Jr., son, chose to remember Jack through the naming of the Community Room by their generous donations to Temple College. The Jack W. Jones Community Room is open to the public for business meetings, workshops, etc.

Dell Martin Nursing Education Center (2005)
The Martin Group donated $250,000 for the renovation to update the Nursing Education Center to a state-of-the-art facility. The building was dedicated the Dell Martin Nursing Education Center in 2005.

The Martin Group Nursing Scholarships (2005)
The Martin Group has donated scholarships in the amount of $45,000 for three years for students who are enrolled full-time in the ADN Nursing Program. The Martin Group continues to support these scholarships on a year-to-year basis.

Hillcrest Foundation (2004)
A grant in the amount of $50,000 was received from the Hillcrest Foundation. The funds were used to expand and enhance a small inadequate, out-of-date computer lab with 15 computers to a full lab that houses 70 new computers that are capable of handling current technology in the Nursing Education Center. The new lab is used by all nursing students to enhance the nursing educational programs and to allow the students to acquire new learning and practice skill sets taught through the general curriculum.

United States Department of Commerce – Economic Development Administration (2004)
Temple College Foundation was granted an award of $720,000 from the Economic Development Administration to renovate a building for the purpose of creating a small business incubator. The grant was in partnership with Temple College, Temple Economic Development Center, City of Temple and the Temple Chamber of Commerce. The incubator, Temple Business Incubator, opened in 2005. The purpose of the Incubator is to assist the growth of early stage firms and the creation of start-up businesses by providing counseling and helping to asses the viability of the business or idea. The Incubator provides all-inclusive office space at a reasonable price if the applicant qualifies. The building also houses the Temple College Foundation offices and the offices of the Temple College Tech program as well as conference rooms that are available to the public and Temple College classrooms.

Frank W. and Sue Mayborn Foundation (2003)
The Frank W. and Sue Mayborn Foundation issued a challenge to the Temple College Foundation to raise $1,411,000 to purchase equipment for the Health Sciences Center. Upon meeting that goal, the Mayborn Foundation gifted the College with a substantial donation that assisted in the major renovation of the Nursing Education Center.

Meadows Foundation (2003)
The Meadows Foundation donated $200,000 to the Temple College Foundation for the purchase of a high-end medical simulator that is used in training for health care professionals. The $200,000 gift was used as a match toward the Mayborn Foundation Challenge Grant. The Meadows Foundation has also supported Temple College through two prior grants awarded to the Temple College at Taylor center for building expansion projects. The Meadows Foundation has proven to be a strong supporter of Temple College and its goals of providing total Center of Excellence at all of its campuses.

Scott & White Hospital (2003)
Scott & White Hospital partnered with Temple College to provide state-of-the-art training for health care professions at the Health Science Center. Scott & White donated $274,000 toward additional needs at the Health Sciences Center. In addition to this gift, Dr. Al Knight and Dr. Wally Dyck were both instrumental in raising large amounts of money to help meet the Mayborn Challenge.

King’s Daughters Hospital (2003)
King's Daughters Hospital supported the equipment challenge grant through a $200,000 donation of equipment for the Health Sciences Center. The Board of Directors approved the equipment match in support of the new Health Sciences Center and the programs and training that will be offered there. As one of the local hospitals, King's Daughters Hospital will be a partner with other health care facilities and personnel and Temple College. Mr. Tucker Bonner, CEO and President of King's Daughters Hospital, was a strong ally in the effort.

Jean and Ralph Wilson Dental Hygiene Clinic (2003)
Dr. Ralph Wilson donated all 12 of the dental chairs to be used in the new Health Sciences Center's Dental Hygiene Clinic. This gift has a value of $150,000. The donation of the chairs allows for additional dental bays which will be used for training as well as for the free dental hygiene clinic for local citizens who need assistance with dental care.

Materials Transportation Company (2003 and 2004)
Materials Transportation Company pledged $30,000 in 2003 and an additional $20,000 in 2004 for the challenge grant from the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation for the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center.

The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation (2003)
The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation awarded the Temple College Foundation a $200,000 challenge grant toward the $1,500,000 renovation project for the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center in December 2003. Mr. Mark Williard, Division Manager for the E.R. Carpenter Co., in Temple presented the first $100,000 check in December of 2003. The additional $100,000 was received in 2006 when the Challenge Grant was met.

The John D. Janicek Trust (2003)
A gift of $200,000 was received from the estate of John D. Janicek to supplement the Janicek Memorial Scholarship Endowment, established by Klara F. Janicek in 1986. Mr. Janicek was a student at Temple College in 1949. The scholarship provides financial assistance to full-time Temple College students and is based upon academic achievement and need.

The Joe and Louise Cook Foundation (2002)
A $50,000 gift from the Joe and Louise Cook Foundation was received for the match toward the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation’s Challenge Grant for the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. Barbara Jean and Erroll Wendland of the Cook Foundation have been major supporters of the arts in Temple for many years.

McLane Gift “Smart” Classrooms (2002)
McLane Company, Inc., under the visionary leadership of Mr. Grady Rosier, made a commitment to education and furthering the goals of Temple College . . . A Center of Excellence Campaign by funding The Smart Classroom Project. Advanced audio-visual technology and projection equipment was installed in 20 classrooms at a cost of approximately $16,500 per classroom. These classrooms provide maximum teaching and learning environments.

Taylor Center Receives Meadows Challenge Grant (2002)
TCAT (Temple College at Taylor) Center received a $150,000 Meadows Foundation Challenge Grant. TCAT raised $300,000 within one year as stipulated by the Challenge. The two-to-one Challenge Grant helped make the dream and vision of a completed center a realty.

Effie Lee Robinson and Clara Mae McKimmey Estate (2001)
Effie Lee Robinson and Clara Mae McKimmey were sisters who enjoyed the programs that Temple College provided for the community. The addition to the Hubert M. Dawson Library was named after them on April 11, 2002.
